Mrs. Keppner has been with Palmyra High School as Counselor since 2019 and in honor of National School Counseling week, we asked her to tell us about her job as a school counselor.
Mrs. Keppner loved teaching 5th grade students but found that she did not have enough time in the school day to meet all their needs because they needed more time to talk and process their feelings. She wanted to learn how to be a better listener and help kids identify and acknowledge their feelings, so she then went into school counseling.
Sadly, one of the things Mrs. Keppner has learned from her students is that life is not always fair. Many of the sweetest people on earth have dealt with the hardest losses. She feels in those times, it is important to allow grace and to recognize the hardship. It is also important to practice gratitude for the gifts we are given in life and to celebrate the good stuff!
Mrs. Keppner strives to be positive and wants to help make a difference in the lives of her students.
We are positive you do a great job Mrs. Keppner and appreciate what you do to make Palmyra High School a success! Thank you!

Mrs. McBride has been Palmyra Middle School Counselor since 2019 and in honor of National School Counseling week, we asked her about her job as a school counselor.
Mrs. McBride says she was inspired to pursue this career by her own school counselor. The support and encouragement her counselor showed to all students was Mrs. McBride's inspiration to become a school counselor.
Students have taught her to enjoy every accomplishment, big or small! They have also taught her that life isn't always fair but finding the positive things can help make it a little easier.
Mrs. McBride encourages her students to be the best versions of themselves and if she had one superpower, she would instill confidence in every student so they believe they are capable of doing great things and achieving their goals!
We are confident you do a great job Mrs. McBride and appreciate everything you do to make Palmyra Middle School a success! Thank you!

We want to take a moment to highlight staff members who achieved PERFECT ATTENDANCE during the first semester.
Congrats to Mrs. Redd, Mrs. Gard and Mr. Wellman! Thank you for all you do for our students!

Mrs. Plunkett has been Palmyra Elementary School Counselor since 2008 and in honor of National School Counseling week, we asked her about her time with the school district.
Mrs. Plunkett says she entered education to make a difference in young people's lives. She feels education can be a powerful tool to make things better and she wanted to be a part of it!
Over the years, students have taught her important lessons about being strong, creative and true to oneself. They have reminded her that learning is not just about books and tests; it's also about exploring, growing emotionally and finding your own voice.
She hopes students remember her as a passionate educator who truly cared about their individual journeys and felt valued and empowered to pursue their dreams and knowing that someone believed in them!
We believe in you Mrs. Plunkett and appreciate everything you do to make PES a success! Thank you!

We are proud to announce that sophomore, Tess Lehman, will compete in the State Finals of The American Legion High School Oratorical Scholarship Program on February 23rd!
Tess began her journey in November by winning the high school contest and has since competed and won the county, district and zone contests to advance to the state finals!
Her memorized Constitutional Speech was 5-6 minutes and will be expanded to 8-10 for the state competition. In addition, she will give a 3-5 minute impromptu speech on one of four randomly selected constitutional amendments. At the state finals there will be four contestants, one from each Missouri zone.
Tess is pictured (2nd from right) after winning the Zone 1 competition held at the Hannibal American Legion Post with American Legion Zone 1 representatives Christine Sapp and Larry DuFour. Also pictured are the 2nd and 3rd place contestants from Zone 1.
We are proud of Tess and wish her the best of luck as she prepares for the next step in her journey!

Way to go TEAM! Congrats Coach Huffman and Coach Hill on a great day of wrestling at QND!
Exciting update from Coach Huffman:
Come home from QND with a 3rd place finish as a team! With your champion at 144 pounds Tyler Spicknall! Very excited for this group and really proud of how far we have come this year. We wrestle hard wherever we go and whoever the opponent is. We have a lot to work on but these kids will put in the work and we will get to where we need to be come district time!! My favorite thing about this group is the competitiveness they bring. This is our first team plaque in 4 years but they are not satisfied. I’m pretty lucky to get to coach a group like this! Individual results below:
Blake Rife 2nd
Emmett Lorenson 3rd
Luke Lawson 4th
Tyler Spicknall 1st
Brayden Pillars 2nd
Kale Weiman 8th
Henley Snow 3rd
Colby Jones 4th
Ace Harper 4th

PHS took 40 interested 10th graders on a tour of the Hannibal Career & Technology Center on Thursday. Students were able to see firsthand what each program entails and think about if it would fit in with their own career plans.
